PhonepayPlus’ new Code consultation – summary version and fast-track online response form

2 June 2010

PhonepayPlus is currently consulting on its new Code of Practice, which represents a significant development in the regulation of premium rate phone-paid services (PRS). The new Code seeks to extend regulatory responsibility throughout the PRS value chain, introduce a new mandatory industry Registration Scheme and base regulation around a set of outcomes designed to ensure consumers can use phone-paid services safely and with confidence.

Understanding that many consumers and smaller providers may not have the time or resource to respond to PhonepayPlus’ full consultation, PhonepayPlus has published a more accessible consultation summary. This is an eight-page guide, written in plain English, that explains the key changes proposed in the new Code consultation.

Alongside this, PhonepayPlus has created a fast-track online response form that consolidates the consultation questions into a single, easy-to-complete questionnaire.

Although it still expects to receive full responses from larger providers and trade associations, PhonepayPlus looks forward to receiving responses via this new method and hopes that its stakeholders find the summary useful. It would also be helpful if these larger providers and trade bodies could make smaller providers/clients aware of this summary and fast-track response form.

PhonepayPlus hopes that these two elements provide a further step in making it easier for all stakeholders to respond to a public consultation.
