Code Review: Call for Inputs

12 September 2013

PhonepayPlus is calling for inputs to a review of the PhonepayPlus Code of Practice (12th Edition).

The timing of the review is driven, in part, by Ofcom’s review of non-geographic call services and the fact that the current Code of Practice has now been in force for two years.

The Call for Inputs paper details the areas of the Code of Practice that PhonepayPlus are considering amending to ensure it continues to provide effective consumer protection. These are:

  • Amendments resulting from Ofcom’s forthcoming legal instruments on NGCS;
  • Changes to ensure the Code is future-proofed for current and future market developments;
  • Technical amendments to Parts Three and Four of the Code; and
  • Improvements to support the principle of ‘polluter pays’.

Responses to the Call for Inputs will frame and shape PhonepayPlus’ thinking in preparation for a formal Code consultation scheduled for 2014. Given the range and scope of changes PhonepayPlus is currently considering, it urges stakeholders with an interest in the regulation of premium rate services to take the time to read and respond to the paper published today.

The deadline for responses to the Call for Inputs is Thursday, October 24 2013.
