Safer Internet Day is an annual global acclaim empowering children and young people to have a safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology. The campaign is taking place in over one hundred countries around the world and in the UK is managed by the partnership of three charities, Childnet International, South West Grid for Learning and the Internet Watch Foundation.
Along with hundreds of organisations supporting the cause, from city councils to charities and schools, PhonepayPlus proudly supports Safer Internet Day.
For children and parents, have a look at PhoneBrain to have a go at what to watch out for when browsing the internet from a mobile device and not only. You’ll find out more about:
- how marketing opt-ins work when you are asked to enter your mobile number on a form
- quizzes, prizes, competitions and adverts that sound too good to be true
- downloading and installing apps
- mobile and social media gaming, buying credits and unlocking new levels
- spam emails and text messages
- fake webpages
There is also a fun quiz you can take to see if you’re smarter than your smartphone.
A while back we launched PhoneBrain, a project aimed at educating children, young people and their parents on a safe and responsible use of the internet via mobile devices. Every year we run a video competition in schools throughout the UK helping children understand how the internet world works, especially when accessing it from a mobile device.
Here is a video we put together with The Parent Zone explaining the issues:
