2015: Year ahead

09 January 2015

With Christmas 2014 a fading memory and 2015 already upon us, there is no better time to look ahead at what the next few months have in store and to highlight some key work PhonepayPlus will be undertaking.

2015This year we are set to see significant changes with the introduction of our 13th Code of Practice, changes to Non-Geographic Call Service pricing and further innovation taking place within the sector just a few of the changes to note.

In 2014 we sought to regulate proportionately and efficiently in order to protect consumers and support innovation in the market. We will continue this work this year and in particular through the development of a new 13th Code within the model of outcomes-based regulation which has proved successful through the current Code.

The first few months are shaping up to be very busy with the consultation on our Business Plan and Budget 2015/16 closing on 28th January.

With the publication of our 13th Code of Practice due to take place later in the year there will be further consultations on affected Guidance and special conditions released in the coming few weeks. All the feedback and support we receive in relation to these documents is of great value to us and feeds directly into our work on the new Code.

On the consumer education front we will be launching our PhoneBrain film competition around the end of January. Our annual competition, which this year sees us working with Childnet, is designed to engage young people in using phone-paid services safely and confidently.

We will once again be supporting Safer Internet Day (SID) taking place on 10th February. Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the day sees hundreds of organisations getting involved to promote the responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Late March sees the announcement of our budget for 2015/16 before April brings with it our Spring Forum which will take place in central London and gives members of the industry a chance to meet on key issues.

We will also be feeding back on the progress of our app store pilot scheme, in which Google are the first participants.

We are keen to hear from you throughout the year so if you can’t wait until the forum in April, please feel free to email, call, post or tweet us.

Here‘s to a successful 2015!
