New office, new Chairman and upcoming work

29 September 2015

September has been a big month of change for PhonepayPlus. Jo Prowse, Chief Executive of PhonepayPlus provides an update on the key changes and upcoming work.

Canary Wharf tube stationIt’s been a big month of change for PhonepayPlus – our new Chairman, David Edmonds joined us on 1 September, we moved out of Clove Building and into our new space in Canary Wharf and I am delighted to have been appointed as Chief Executive right at the end of the month.

New location for PhonepayPlus
Our move, to a smaller office and lower costs, is part of efficiency savings which we announced back in March in our Business Plan and Budget 2015/16. Over the length of the new office’s lease PhonepayPlus will save up to half a million pounds.

We hope that with Canary Wharf’s excellent links, you will find our new site more convenient to get to and from and I look forward to seeing many of you here in the coming months.

Our new address is:

PhonepayPlus, 25th Floor, 40 Bank Street, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5NR

David Edmonds, PhonepayPlus’ new Chairman
We recently welcomed David Edmonds CBE as the new Chairman of PhonepayPlus. David took over from outgoing Chairman Andrew Pinder CBE and he joins us with considerable experience of telecommunications and board level leadership. His extensive career in business, regulation and government departments includes time as Director General of Telecommunications, a founding Board Member of Ofcom and Chairman of NHS Direct. [JP1] David has met a number of key stakeholders in his first few weeks and is looking to talk to many more. We are excited to have David on board leading the next phase of PhonepayPlus’ development.

Confirmation as Chief Executive
As announced earlier this week, I have been confirmed as Chief Executive of PhonepayPlus having served as Acting Chief Executive since May 2014. I am delighted to be confirmed in the role and look forward to building on what PhonepayPlus and our key stakeholders have achieved since I began leading the Executive last year.

A number of other important pieces of work are taking place in the coming months that I want to draw your attention to.

Investigations, Sanctions and Procedures (Part 4 Review)
Back in May of this year we announced a review of our Investigations, Procedures and Sanctions (Part 4 Review). The review is designed to identify where our regulatory framework, which underpins enforcement of the Code of Practice, could be revised. Recommendations from the review will form the basis for consultation on the 14th edition of the Code of Practice. Recommendations are due to be published and consulted upon soon when we will provide information on the proposed changes and how to comment on them. Further information about the review can be found here.

Industry Forum
Registration for our Autumn Industry Forum opened a few weeks ago and there are still a few spaces available. The Forum is taking place on Wednesday 4th November in London and brings together a wide section of the premium rate services industry. The Forum provides the opportunity for you to hear about regulatory developments, including the progress of the Part 4 Review as well as areas of growth for premium rate services. Further details about the Forum and how to register can be found here.
