Be vigilant of texts claiming to be from Zoom

27 July 2020

You may have received a message encouraging you to call a premium rate number to retrieve a voicemail, but these are not from Zoom.

The Phone-paid Services Authority is urging consumers to be vigilant following a number of reports of texts claiming to be from videoconferencing platform Zoom, which encourage people to call an expensive phone number to retrieve a voicemail.

These texts are not from Zoom and the phone number will cost you £6, plus access charges, to call.

It’s always a good idea to check a phone number before you call it. If you receive a missed call or text message like this one, be particularly careful. Most official customer helplines will begin 01, 02, 03 and 080, which are billed at low or standard rates. 09, 087, 084 and 118 numbers are billed at premium rates, so will cost you money to call.
